Another: \u201cRIP Hold Music.\u201d These flashy headlines try to stir up drama\u2014but beneath the surface, they serve one purpose: to generate hype around the next great AI automation firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These articles tend to follow a familiar pattern:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Only, not really. AI Agents Won’t Replace Messages On Hold.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Sure, automation can handle routine tasks. Many of us already ask Alexa to play music or reorder dog food. But there\u2019s a difference between convenience and care. In the context of something as personal as healthcare, patients want to feel heard and understood\u2014not just processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Even the AI agents themselves often admit their limits. One article by AI founders Jeffery Liu and Jon Wang (of Assort Health) says fairly, \u201cAI agents are not going to solve every problem, and nothing will happen overnight.\u201d Unfortunately, their article is titled RIP Hold Music<\/em>\u2014a misleading conclusion that undermines their otherwise measured tone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They even go so far as to say AI \u201cwould never put someone on hold.\u201d That\u2019s simply not true. Once an AI agent gathers intake information, it may still need to escalate the call to a human\u2014at which point, you\u2019re on hold<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When that inevitable moment arrives\u2014whether due to call volume, complexity, or safety protocols\u2014what do you want your customers to hear? Dead silence? Or a calm, reassuring voice with carefully curated music, sharing helpful insights and reinforcing the value of your brand?<\/p>\n\n\n\n A human-centric, well-designed hold experience is not a relic. It\u2019s a moment of opportunity<\/strong>. Even 30 seconds can make a powerful impression. During the Super Bowl, 30 seconds of attention is worth $8 million. What could your business do with that time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one is arguing against progress. We\u2019re excited by the possibilities of automation. AI has enormous potential to make call centers more efficient and accessible\u2014especially for small businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But framing hold messaging as the enemy is disingenuous.
