While most phone platforms play a single audio file from the beginning for every on-hold experience, 3CX allows you to upload multiple music-on-hold files and even randomize their playback. The exact behavior depends on the MOH feature you use and how you configure it. You can load multiple WAV files into numbered slots. The randomization options at the bottom of the screen. Look for \u201cControl Playback.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-randomize-per-call-does\"><strong>What \u201cRandomize per call\u201d Does<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When \u201cRandomize per call\u201d is enabled under <em>Settings \u2192 Music on Hold \u2192 General MOH<\/em>, 3CX randomly chooses one of your uploaded audio files <em>for each new call that goes on hold<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Each call gets its own, independent playback.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The selected file always starts from the beginning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It loops until the hold is released or the call ends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if five callers are placed on hold at once, they could each be hearing <em>different<\/em> tracks but every one of them starts from 0:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best use case for \u201cRandomize per call\u201d:<\/strong> You have several complete hold messages or music tracks and want variety, but also want each caller to hear a full, clean start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-randomize-per-day-does\"><strong>What \u201cRandomize per day\u201d Does<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you only select <strong>\u201cRandomize per day\u201d<\/strong>, 3CX picks one random file <strong>in the morning (or at PBX start)<\/strong> and then uses that <em>same file<\/em> for all callers the rest of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Every caller that day hears the same track.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The next day, 3CX may pick a different one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This mode is designed more for daily rotation\u2014not for per-call variety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-recommendation-choose-randomize-per-call\"><strong>Recommendation: Choose \u201cRandomize per call\u201d<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If neither the \u201cper call\u201d nor the \u201cper day\u201d option is checked:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3CX will always play the first file in your MOH list (\u201cMusic File 0\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It will loop that one file continuously for all callers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So even if you\u2019ve uploaded multiple files, only the first one will actually play.
