Older equipment is reaching end of life, maintenance costs are increasing, and new platforms offer improved flexibility, mobility, and AI-powered features. You may hear something like this from your prospective service provider: “We have built-in music, automated messages, and AI tools. You won’t need your Music On Hold Services anymore.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sounds convenient. One platform, everything included. But there’s a big difference between having a music-on-hold feature and delivering a professionally managed caller experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are five problems you should investigate before making the switch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Congratulations! You Have Another Job.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Your new cloud phone system might include tools for creating voice messages, selecting music, and managing recordings. But who’s going to write the messages? Produce the audio? Choose the music? Keep promotions current? Remove outdated announcements?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your staff already has plenty to do. A do-it-yourself music-on-hold feature can become another responsibility that nobody has time to manage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. The Music Stops. A Voice Interrupts. The Music Starts Again.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is one of the most irritating approaches to on-hold messaging. A caller hears music. Suddenly, the music stops. Naturally, they think someone is answering their call. Instead, a recorded voice interrupts with a generic announcement. Then the caller is returned to the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
